Thinking of escaping to the beautiful hill stations of Ooty and Kodaikanal this summer? Great choice! But before you pack your bags, there’s one important step: obtaining an e-pass. Here’s how to apply for an e-pass online.
What is an E-Pass?
An e-pass is a mandatory electronic permit required for all vehicles entering Ooty and Kodaikanal between May 7th and June 30th, 2024. This helps manage traffic flow and ensure a smooth experience for visitors.
Who Needs an E-Pass?
Anyone traveling to Ooty or Kodaikanal by car, bus, or van needs an e-pass, regardless of purpose (tourism, business, etc.).
The good news is, there’s no limit on the number of e-passes issued, and local residents with TN-43 registration plates are exempt.
How to Apply for an E-Pass Online?
Getting your e-pass is a breeze! Here’s what you need to do:
Head to the official website: The Tamil Nadu government launched a dedicated e-pass website for Ooty and Kodaikanal. Simply visit epass.tnega.org (active from May 6th, 2024 onwards).
Enter mobile number, and captcha to get OTP.
Once you receive OTP, enter the OTP.
Choose your destination to get the appropriate e-pass.
Fill out the application form: The form will ask for basic information like your name, address, travel details (dates, purpose), vehicle details, and number of passengers. Make sure everything is accurate!
Submit and wait for verification: Once you submit the form, your e-pass will be processed. You’ll receive a confirmation email with a QR code.
Why is an E-Pass Mandatory?
The e-pass system helps manage tourist influx and protect the environment. Ooty and Kodaikanal are popular destinations, and controlling traffic flow ensures a pleasant experience for everyone. Additionally, the information collected helps authorities manage parking and assess potential environmental impacts.
