3 Simple things you can do to improve your blog right now!

Having a blog is a great thing for your business. A blog can help you in a lot of ways!

For one, it acts as your major marketing tool.

Your business can get in front of more and more eyeballs with your blog.

And your blog can be a very helpful resource to your readers.

Each blog post you write and publish is a source of information helping them to gain knowledge or providing them solution to actual problems.

However, your blog might not be up to the mark to serve its purpose. It most probably needs to improved.

And looking at the various aspects of a blog to improve can be a time consuming task.

In this post, I share 3 simple things that you can do – that can improve your blog right now.

Yes 3 simple things sound a lot more convincing to get to action, right? Exactly my point!

Let’s dive right in.

#1 Declutter your website

A cluttered website fails to serve its purpose.

Be it conversion, or keeping your readers on your site or being useful to them – a cluttered website will simply won’t serve any of these purposes.

Which is why decluttering is highly important.

You need to take a look at your site from the point of view as a reader. As a blog owner your site might look awesome to you.

But from the perspective of your readers it could be a lot cluttered.

So what are the things that you should look for?

  • Too many or distracting ads
  • Pop ups that hinder user experience
  • In-content link ads that confuse your readers (as to which is a reference link and which is an ad)
  • Poor navigation (or too many menus and menu items)
  • Useless widgets
  • Mediocre blog posts
The list can go on… but you get the idea!

For more information on this I suggest you read this blog post.

#2 Work on your site speed

Your website’s loading speed decides whether your readers stay on your site or not.

Your readers are not going to wait for more than 5 seconds for a page on your website to load.

And if they are viewing your blog from a mobile device (for which the chances are pretty high) they are not going to wait for more than 3 seconds.

I know that can put a lot of pressure on you, but it is not something that you cannot achieve.

Follow the best practices. You could enable AMP on your website to help mobile users with poor internet speed.

Do not make your pages heavy by using a lot of external scripts.

When you upload images make sure you compress them using a tool like compressor.io.

#3 Publish consistently

Consistency is the key to success. And if you want your blog to be successful, you have to treat it like business.

Publishing whenever you feel you are in the right mood is certainly not the way to go.

Make it a commitment and get to a consistent publishing schedule.

At the same time you don’t have to force yourself into an unrealistic or unmanageable publishing schedule.

You just have to be consistent. Pick a frequency that suits you and stick to it – it can be twice a week, twice a month or anything that fits you.

You might want to use a few tools to capture blog post ideas, have a list of ideas ready and use an editorial calendar to help you with this!

But once you start to publish consistently your blog starts to improve – and this is not a spike kind of improvement but something that works for the long run.
